Update #02 - Second week!

Hello, my friends!

Here's an update of whats been happening this last week.

01. Art scavenging

As you may know, all the art I'll use for the game comes from public domain comic books from the 50s and 60s.

There are thousands of them available online (which is good), but most of it is not quite useless (which is bad).

I've gathered quite a few images for a first screening, but I'll have to go through all of them again later, and find a lot more art.

02. Writing

The actual writing of the game is going well and today I'd like to share with you some snippets.

First one is the overview of the gameplay.

Here's a step-by-step overview of how gameplay goes:

THE JOB

  1. You create the Job, by picking cards for a Location, a Prize, and a Mark
  2. You place the Location and the Package in front of you, one foot apart
  3. The game follows a 3-Act structure.
    a. The space to the left of the Location represents Act I - The Preparation
    b. The space between the Location and the Prize represents Act II - The Execution
    c. The space to the right of the Prize represents Act III - The Extraction
  4. You choose Moments for all three acts. Moments represent the tropes of heist movies, snippets of action that you are interested in seeing in play.
  5. You place the Moments cards in their respective gaps, one next to the other, more or less in the order you think they will happen.
  6. You choose a bunch of Snags for your heist. Snags are complications and twists that might come up during play. You shuffle them to form the Snag Deck.

THE TEAM

  1. Going through the Moments you selected, you pick a number of characters that will take part on this heist based both on the number of players and the difficult level you want
  2. You arrange the Character cards in front of you so everyone can see them
  3. You collect the Knack cards of all characters (even the ones not on the current team) to form the Knack Deck

THE HEIST

  1. Each player draws 3 cards from the Knack Deck.
  2. You decide on a plausible Moment to engage with
  3. You pick a character to be in that moment
  4. You decide if you're going to use one of the Knacks you have on hand or not
  5. You establish the scene, framing the context and the environment
  6. Depending on your choices, you might roll some dice
  7. With the results of the dice, you mark a BEAT (you advance on overcoming the obstacle and completing that scene) and/or take HEAT (you draw attention, suffer harm or stress, break/loose stuff and so on)
  8. You roleplay the scene, incorporating the results in your narration and some cool aspects of that character
  9. Your results might also bring some Snags into play and put that character in hot water
  10. You discard the Knack card you used and draw a new one
  11. Another player starts their turn
  12. When all players have had a turn, a new round begins
  13. Repeat this process until all Moments and Snags into play have been overcome

THE END

  1. You add up all the BEATS you marked and subtract all HEAT you had on the characters by the end of the job.
  2. The result is your Score, a representation of how successful the heist was.
  3. You use the score to improve the life of your community and to get ready for your next job.
